Impressions of June 14th, 2008

A gorgeous morn with flags a-flying. Oh, I’m sure they are for Don!
After many weeks of struggle, could it be he’s really gone?
It won’t be the same without him. Yet, we honor him today
in a joyous celebration of his life with much to say.

Learned about Don’s love of pepper, perfect fried eggs, scrambled too.
How his car was always spotless - organized in all he’d do.
Trusted kids to make good choices, taught work ethic that was great.
Loved his boots, sand dunes, and fishing -Found in Carol a perfect mate.

Deer hunts - Jason went at age three! Others went at 14 years!
What a time of fun remembrance! Lots of laughter, fewer tears.
Big recliner, watching movies -Working in his shed out back.
Solitaire on his computer - Jazz to cheer and wins to track.

Family barbeques, most special - Texas Ranger shows were, too.
Had a great love for elk liver - Could fix anything, it’s true.
Holding hands with wife forever -Treasure hunts out in the yard.
Never, no not once, complaining, even when his life was hard.

Goodness how the grandkids love him! And the older ‘greats’ do too.
Parker "guarded" grandpa’s casket; what a tender thing to do.
Sweet Sekoya stood by often, touching hair that Karen cut
"Take care of Grandpa Fish," prayed Carson. What a cute and tender mutt!

Oh, I’m sure Don loved the music, that his siblings were all there,
Carol, dressed in sage, was peaceful, beautiful with well-coiffed hair.
She kept nodding her approval as their children spoke of him;
as did older sister Katherine. Love was spilling o’er the brim!

At the luncheon, fifteen grandkids got an eagle of their own.
What a wonderful reminder of this great man they’ve all known!
He has truly been their hero. Now he wants them to soar high.
Love and serve and live the gospel. Keep the family strong, don’t cry.

Steven, quoting Nephi, counseled those of us who’ve loved Don so,
to press forward and be hopeful.
There’ll be reunion.
That we know!
