Only one day after a fun trip to Provo, we had a very scary ride to Provo... to back up a little ... Late last Saturday evening Joan called us on her way back to Joseph City after spending the day with Nahna & Gaylen in Fredonia. She was very worried about Gaylen - said he was very sick with chest pains, shortness of breath, etc. We have actually been worried about him for months, and Kirk was especially worried about him when he was up on the mountain for the elk hunt. Anyway..... Joan asked us to please check on him Sunday when we got out of church. Kirk tried calling them before our 9:00 meeting, but no answer. During sacrament meeting we had decided that Kirk would go up immediately after sacrament meeting and not wait until our block was over, to see if they were home. During our closing song, we were motioned to the foyer and Nahna was there crying hard. Gaylen had had a bad heart attack and they were transporting him to Provo in an ambulance. Dr Greenwood told Nahna it was very bad and he was not sure he would survive the trip. I couldn't believe it - not again I thought! We rushed home to grab a few things and headed with Nahna to Provo, not knowing what we would find when we got there and praying hard all the way. Gaylen & Nahna's bishop happened to be at the hospital before they transported him and gave him a short but very beautiful blessing. We all know in our hearts that it saved his life. We were able to catch Kim & Lisa before they had left Provo and they met the ambulance when it got to the hospital. They immediately took Gaylen in for surgery - they were able to put 3 stints in his arteries without having to do open heart. He was in critical condition, but we were hopeful. There several scary and hard days, but now it is a week later and Kirk and I are back in Provo at a motel. Joan had drove up and spent most of the week with Nahna, but went home on Friday. It has been very rough week but today was a good day and he was finally released from the ICU and into a room. We think he has finally turned the corner and is going to pull through just fine. He looks so much better, although he is still very weak and has a long ways to go for a full recovery. What a scare, but yet how blessed we have been. So grateful for prayers and the power of the priesthood. So grateful for all of our family and friends!
