A New Prophet

On Monday, February 4, 2008, the LDS Church announced that President Thomas S Monsen is our 16th prophet. His first counselor is Henry B Eyring and his second counselor is Dieter F Uchtdorf. I don't know if any of my kids remember the connection that our family has with President Monsen. After Grandpa Don had his second heart surgery he was back in St George at the Coral Hills Motel and not doing well at all. Pres Monsen was in the presidency at that time and went to St George to attend a regional conference. He was staying at the Coral Hills and Grandma Carol was aware of that. You could not call his room directly, but had to go through his security people. But, Grandma decided it wouldn't hurt to ask, so she called and explained their situation and asked if there was any way that Pres Monsen could give grandpa a blessing. She was working her shift at the desk and waited to hear all afternoon, but never did. She was disappointed, but knew that he was a very busy man. She went back up to the apartment to fix grandpa dinner and just as she was clearing up dishes, someone knocked at the door. When she opened the door, there stood President Monsen with his security guard. She said he filled the doorway and she couldn't find her voice for a minute to even ask him in. She told me how kind he was and visited with them for several minutes, asking about grandpa's surgery, their family, etc. - never seeming to be in a hurry. He had his security guard administer the oil and Pres Monsen gave grandpa a beautiful blessing. I told her she needs to write down what she can remember and share it with all of us - hopefully she will. She said from that day on, grandpa started to improve. How grateful we are for the power of prayer and blessings.
